How to find your Windows product key

Depending on how Windows was installed, your key may be in your PC's firmware, your email, or not shown at all.

If you bought it from us

Your key is in the email we sent you and any time under My account › My orders & keys.

Key built into your PC

Most laptops and pre-built PCs that came with Windows have a key stored in the firmware. To show it:

  1. Right-click Start and open Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell.
  2. Paste (Get-CimInstance -ClassName SoftwareLicensingService).OA3xOriginalProductKey and press Enter.

If nothing appears, your PC has no key in the firmware.

Keys Windows won't show

For keys you typed in yourself, Windows only keeps the last five characters. Run slmgr /dli to see them, which helps you match a key to an order.

If Windows activated with a digital licence linked to your Microsoft account, there's no key to find: it reactivates automatically when you sign in after reinstalling.
